Hundreds of children and their families enjoyed messy fun in the Vancouver Quarter on Thursday 6 April during a special spring-themed workshop.
The activity was situated opposite Wilko on New Conduit Street and saw youngsters create beautiful butterflies before planting sunflower seeds during the drop-in workshop, which ran from 10am to 3pm.
“We’ve had some excellent feedback from parents who brought their children along and clearly this event was a big hit with families,” centre manager Abbie Panks said. “It was wonderful to see so many children having fun and getting crafty and we’re looking forward to families sharing pictures of their sunflowers growing too.”
Next up is the first Vancouver Quarter Saturday Club of 2017. The Fairyland Trust will be on hand on April 8 to help children make their own miniature garden with three real wildflowers that they can take home and plant.
Families will also learn the folklore behind these fairy flowers and why it is so important to grow them at home. The workshop sessions will last 45 minutes, which includes a storytelling performance at the start. Booking is essential for this event via the Vancouver Quarter website.
Then on Thursday, April 13 there will be an Easter bonnets and baskets workshop with four sessions at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm. The baskets and bonnets will come in very useful for the Vancouver Quarter’s Easter Egg Trail on Saturday, April 15.
Fifteen giant Easter eggs, each displaying something unique, will be hidden around the town, and all families need to do is find them between 1pm and 5pm, mark them on the map provided and return it to the Vancouver Quarter for the chance to win £250 of shopping vouchers. Anyone who manages to correctly find 10 or more eggs will also receive an Easter treat.
Keeping to the egg theme, businesses in King’s Lynn will be competing in this year’s egg and spoon races on Tuesday, April 11 at 2pm. The three-legged racers will be negotiating a course on St Dominic’s Square, near Iceland and Sainsbury’s, to battle for the honours of top team.
There will be plenty of other free events in the Vancouver Quarter this year, including the return of our very popular Halloween event and Christmas Grotto.
