There was a real splash of colour as the Saturday Club worked on decorations for the Chinese New Year which starts on Friday.
Families were encouraged to get creative and join the workshop fun at the first Saturday Club meeting of the year and make spinning dragons, Year of the Dog stained-glass pictures and Chinese dragon puppets.
“We always like to celebrate Chinese New Year here in the Vancouver Quarter, and it is the perfect subject to kick-off this year’s Saturday Clubs and offer a great event for free,” said Abbie Panks, Centre Manager.
Across the globe the New Year will be welcomed with a riot of colour and noise, as families gather to celebrate with fire crackers, lion dancers and the lucky red envelopes which usually have monetary gifts for younger members.
Saturday Club members have met for a second time to create Valentine’s gifts and the next event will be an egg-citing Easter Trail and workshop in March. There will also be a special workshop collaboration this year with True’s Yard Museum and Festival Too later in the year.
The Mini Beast bug trail will return for another year as will the Mods and Rockers spectacular and the hugely popular Fairy tales and Legends in the summer.
